Located in a beautiful area of North Texas, The University of Texas at Arlington is a very apartment friendly, modern University that gives its students the ability to commute easily to campus from their dorm, home, or any of the Arlington and DFW apartments.
Founded in 1895, UTA was originally known as Arlington College. Soon it's name changed to Carlisle Military academy, but later changed to an A and M
University. In 1959, the university achieved four year status and in 1963was absorbed into the University of Texas system. Today, the University enrolls almost 25,000 students both undergraduate and graduate alike. Popular areas of study at this University include research in Biochemistry, Nanotechnology, Psychology and Medicine.
Admission
If you are in the 10% of your class you will be admitted without being evaluated on an SAT/ACT score. If you are in the second quarter of your class, your SAT score needs to be at least 1050 or better, or your ACT score needs to be at least 22. If you graduated in the third quarter of your class, you will need an SAT score of 1150 or better with a 25 on the ACT. The University has a college preparatory program called "Gateway." Gateway will allow you to prepare for classes at a slower pace by taking the remedial Math, English, and Science classes. You don't receive a number or letter grade for them, but instead you receive a Credit Received or No Credit Received for the class itself as an almost pass/fail type of evaluation system.
Areas of Study
At UTA the choice of classes that you can take are almost limitless. Anything from Accounting to Molecular Biology. UTA offers 78 Bachelors, 74 Masters and 33 Doctoral programs. Each department will have it's own requirements for what you need to take for graduation.
Costs
So once you clear all of the hurtles and get past the red tape, you will need to think about living arrangements and tuition. Remember, even if you cannot afford the out of pocket expenses of school,financial aid is always a backup. Your tuition for a year of classes at UTA as an undergraduate is going to be about $6,800 dollars. If you live in any of their residence halls, you are looking at additional $2,340 to 4,910 a year. A meal plan at UTA costs about $2456 to $2800 per year on top of that. The bottom line is that with living expenses, tuition, and food, the total cost of college, depending on how inexpensively you live will range between $12,444 and $24,609 a year. UTA Apartment and Residence Hall Living
Choosing to live in the residence halls is a great way to meet people and each halls comes with air conditioning, cable TV, ethernet connections and are fully furnished. Each also has a community area with on-site laundry facilities, game rooms and 24 hour maintenance to name a few of the amenities. But living on-campus also means living with more rules and a whole lot less privacy. If you are looking for more privacy and freedom, a better choice for you may be many of the Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth area apartment communities within the vicinity of the campus. Many are student friendly and some even give student discounts on rent and utilities.

There are also a few on campus apartments if you decide not to live in a residence hall. These come with all the amenities like a refrigerator and a stove and are very nice. Many students will want to move out into the Arlington area to check out the apartments. This area is growing so fast, that apartment complexes can't rent them fast enough. Plus, they offer privacy, security, and the ability to set your own schedule, and most importantly, they offer personal space.
