Moving to Irving, Texas and want to find a good community college within driving or walking distance of your new apartment? Then check out North Lake College.

North Lake College was constructed in 1977 on 276 acres of land donated by the John Carpenter family. It was the sixth of seven colleges of DCCCD (Dallas County Community College District.) From it's beginning, North Lake College has lived up to it's

mission statement: " To prepare people for successful living and responsible citizenship through quality educational program." The college offers basic beginner college classes that can be taken in a smaller setting, and can then be used as hours to transfer to a larger university. They offer: Associates Degrees in everything from education, to business, to humanities. They also offer certificate programs in Accounting, Aircraft Technology, Air Conditioning, and Autobody and Mechanics. In order to be admitted to the college you must be 18, have a high school diploma, with your high school transcript. You will then have to attend a college orientation and speak to an advisor. Once this is done, you may then register for classes. Tuition is $39 dollars per credit hour, so for 12 full hours of classes, a full load will cost you just over $600 dollars. You can pay your tuition online, in person or by mail. Financial aid is also available for those who need it.

Although the college currently does not have on campus housing, but, the college offers a variety of multicultural activities and opportunities to see and hear musicians, motivational speakers, artists, writers and performers. They college also offers Division three baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball for men and women. It is through these events, that the college is attempting to create a student centered community that gives students a sense of belonging, while teaching them the skills necessary to survive in collge.
