Founded in 1890 by Joshua C. Chilton as the Texas College and Teacher Training Institute, the University of North Texas began on the second floor of a hardware store in the town square of Denton a small town near Dallas, Texas. The perfect university for Apartment-ites on the go, UNT offers a rich tradition with a solid education to commuters living off campus as well as those students who choose
to live on campus. UNT offers a fun educational experience for all students to enjoy.

The name of the University has changed six times following its initial creation, each time reflecting its growth in size and educational goals. To date, UNT has awarded more than 200,000 bachelors and master degrees and over 100,000 of its alumni live and work in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Currently 34,000 students from all 50 states and 141 countries attend UNT.

There are several ways to be easily admitted into UNT. Students who graduate High School in the top 10% of their class will be automatically accepted into the program upon application. If you did not graduate this high, a student will need to provide their SAT scores and apply for admission through the general application process. Prospective students who do not meet the minimum requirement of SAT score may also submit an essay with references from former teachers, and a committee will decide on acceptance or not. The other option is to attend a community college, get your basics out of the way and then apply for a transfer.

With 50 different departments and over 90 undergraduate majors to choose from, a student??s choice of study at the University of North Texas is vast. With courses of study that reach out as far as a study of the inhabitants of the rainforests to theories about life on Mars, this University has it all.

If a student is going to take a full load of 12 hours at UNT in 2008-2009, they would be looking at a total of $3,233.40 for one full semester. Students who wish to go part time will pay roughly $235 per course hour. This DOES NOT include room and board. Students may choose to live on the UNT campus at one of 13 residence halls or in one of the many surrounding apartment communities in the Denton and Dallas-Fort Worth area. The student body is made up of many commuters who enjoy the benefits and freedom of living in their own apartment and coming to campus when it??s time for class. The universities ample parking space and location is the perfect set-up for a student who wishes to better their education while living in their own, awesome apartment.

Students who do not wish to or do not have the benefit of living in their own off-campus apartment in one of the many surrounding communities can live in one of the 13 residence halls on campus. Each of them vary in price. Students have the choice of Economy Halls like College Inn or West Hall, Standard Halls like Bruce, Clark, Crumley, Kerr, and Maple Hill, or New Halls like Honors Hall, Legends Hall, Mozart Square, Santa Fe Square, Traditions Hall, and Victory Hall. Economy halls like College Inn, the preference of the upperclassmen, give students the option of having a meal plan or not. It??s open year round and has exterior entry, costing around $1,851.00 per semester. Adding a seven day meal plan will up the price to $3,129.00 per semester. Rates for the standard halls which all require meal plans range from $2931.08 per semester with a 5 day meal plan or $3109.69 with a 7 day meal plan. All of the standard halls are double occupancy rooms.

If you choose to live in the Newer Halls, you will have a choice in meal plans like the Economy Halls, and the cost will range from $2330 to $3849 depending on the hall and living situation chosen.

Living on-campus, you may have to deal with a lack of privacy and do away with some of the perks of living in an apartment. As mentioned above, the Denton area has a plethora of great apartments to choose from within a short distance from the university.

The University of North Texas in Denton, offers an awesome place for an apartment-ite on the go the opportunity to get their education and have a lot of fun doing it!
