Richland Community College

This well known community college was founded in 1972 in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, Texas bordering the cities of Richardson and Garland. Today it is the largest school in the Dallas County Community College District (or DCCCD) with over 14,000 students. The college also serves as a school of continuing education with about 5000 students many of them from different countries, speaking more than 79 languages. The mission statement of RCC is "teaching, learning, community building."

Students can attend Richland to get their core classes out of the way before transferring to a major university or can choose to get an Associates Degree in computer science, the health professions, mass communications, applied science, or liberal arts.

Admission and Cost
To be admitted, you will need an official High School transcript, proof of residency, a picture ID and the application. In addition, you will need your ACT, SAT or TAKS scores. RCC offers what is known as rolling admission, meaning that they will admit anybody that can complete the classes and pay their tuition. International students are welcome and will go through the same procedures as a resident applicant.

The cost of the college is very inexpensive. I have seen University tuition rates per hour of $400 to $500. At Richland the cost per hour is $39 dollars per hour for Dallas County residents, $72 dollars per hour for people living outside of Dallas County and $115 dollars for out of state or international students. Very affordable indeed!

Resident Housing
RCC does not offer resident housing, however with the current population boom in this area, there are no shortages of apartments to rent in the Richland Community College area. Some communities cater to students, some of them are more exclusive and only want professional working people to live there.

Richland is a great chance for Dallas apartment-ites to further their education close to home.
